Recording of the Webinar on the UN Global Accelerator on Jobs and Social Protection for Just Transitions

The recording of the webinar on the "UN Global Accelerator on Jobs and Social Protection for Just Transitions" is now online. The webinar that was coorganized by the Working Group on Financing Social Protection of the Global Coalition for Social Protection Floors (GCSPF) and the INSP!R network took place on 26 April 2024.

The speakers were Markus Kaltenborn (Professor of Public Law at the University Bochum in Germany and individual member of the GCSPF) and Valérie Schmitt (Deputy Director of the Social Protection Department of the International Labour Organization and Coordinator of the Global Accelerator). The moderator was Ana Zeballos (GCSPF).

Markus Kaltenborn (download his presentation) presented an overview of the Global Accelerator, its goals, actors, and its governance structure.

Valérie Schmitt (download her presentation) informed us about the national level processes, the current stage of implementation in the different countries (pathfinder countries) and the civil society organizations and trade unions involvement at country level, including opportunities for participation.

An Internal Strategy and Brainstorming Session for civil society organizations and trade unions also took place. This session was moderated by Koen Detavernier (WSM) and the speakers were Moustapha Mbengue (Vice-President of Union Nationale des Mutuelles de Sante Communautaires - UNAMUSC and a member of INSP!R Senegal) and Beatrice Di Padua (ITUC).

Moustapha Mbengue (UNAMUSC and INSP!R Network, Senegal) shared the lessons learned from the EU Project on Social Protection and Public Finance Management and Beatrice Di Padua (ITUC) spoke about the trade union experiences (download her presentation).

SP&PFM Programme

The programme Improving Synergies Between Social Protection and Public Finance Management provided medium-term support to multiple countries aiming to strengthen their social protection systems at a national level and ensure sustainable financing. The programme aimed to support countries in their efforts towards achieving universal social protection coverage.

This initiative is implemented jointly by the ILO, Unicef, and the GCSPF.
